Celebrating Black Creators & Black-owned Businesses

Posted by Baebody Admin on

We should always celebrate Black creators and Black-owned businesses (not just during Black history month). Because Black History Month is an annual celebration of the accomplishments and contributions that African Americans have made in U.S. history, we want to take the time to uplift Black creators and Black-owned businesses who we follow and support that continuously impact the beauty, wellness, fitness, culinary and lifestyle industries. We’ve highlighted a few of our favorites that are beautifully authentic with a passion for selfcare, self-love and social change.

6 Black creators to follow

Tomi Obebe

A Charlotte-based content creating queen, Tomi is a fashion and lifestyle blogger focused on empowering women to look and feel their best. Apart from her bright and girly style, we love her bubbly spirit and self-love tidbits she shares with her readers and followers. If you’re looking for fashion, beauty, pop culture and thoughtful inspiration, Tomi is your go-to. Follow her on Instagram or read up on her blog, GoodTomiCha.

Lita Lewis

Everyone’s fitness journey is different, and Lita embraces that. A fitness and wellness coach and the owner of Thick Athletics Apparel, Lita is a superstar who values personal growth and the power of self-love. Her authenticity inspires us daily and we’re thankful to have someone to look up to in the fitness industry who prioritizes mental well-being and selfcare. Follow her on Instagram and check her out.

 Michelle Blackwood

The voice, content creator and photographer behind the food blog Healthier Steps, Michelle shares vegan and gluten-free recipes that are inspired from her Jamaican heritage. All of her recipes are made with natural ingredients and free of refined sugars. We know this is no easy task, and Michelle’s passion of researching dishes and ‘veganizing’ them has us in awe. Cook up some recipes and follow her on Instagram for some kitchen inspo!

 Thamarr

Thamarr is a Progressive Care Nurse by day and fashion blogger by night. She created her blog, Musings of a Curvy Lady, as a way to promote her personal style and beauty without bias. “I’m tired of waiting for the world to catch up and see the light: that fashion, life, love, health and everything good in this world is for EVERY BODY, so I decided to become my own light.” And a light she most certainly is! Follow along her journey on Instagram.

 Berto Calkins

Berto is an inspirational figure in the vegan community who is an NASM Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist and is eCornell Plant-Based Nutrition Certified. Needless to say, this man knows his way around living a healthy, vegan lifestyle! With a positive focus on physical and mental health, inclusivity and accessibility, Berto has us motivated and excited for #meatlessmondays! Follow him on Instagram for some plant-based, healthy living fun.

 Tj Davidson

Have you heard of the Daily Davidsons Youtube vlog? Yep, Tj Davidson is the husband and dad of that beautiful family of 5! With a huge transition from a corporate engineer to a full-time entrepreneur, Tj’s path to success and family-man nature is awe-inspiring and one to follow.

Black-owned businesses to support

BLK & Bold

BLK & Bold is the first black-owned, nationally distributed coffee brand in the U.S. And we can’t rave ENOUGH about their coffee, guys. Founded by two childhood friends, this independent coffee and tea brand incorporates social impact into their business model; they pledge 5% of their profits to initiatives aligned to sustaining youth programming, enhancing workforce development and eradicating youth homelessness. Coffee that tastes and feels good while drinking it!

 Mented Cosmetics

Cruelty-free and vegan, Mented Cosmetics creates makeup for everyone, no matter the skin tone. The thing we love most about this beauty brand is the prioritization of inclusivity – each of their makeup products, from lipstick to eyeshadow palettes to blushes, is perfectly pigmented to match all skin tones.  If you want makeup that actually works for your complexion, we highly recommend this brand!

 Sage & Alms

Sage & Alms is a benefit corporation that is committed to taking actions that benefit the whole of society through sustainability, ethical and economic responsibility and social justice. They currently have two brands under their company, Kanda Chocolates and DewBurst. Both of these brands aids in Sage & Alms’ commitment to bringing forth products that minimize waste in their environment and creating positive and measurable impact on the social well-being of others.
